About Me
Biography
I am a current PhD candidate in Literature at the Australian National University, where I research the consequences of post-9/11 national security logic through American popular culture. My doctoral thesis uses Marvel's Iron Man film trilogy (2008-2013) to identify the emotional attachments that bind people to the pursuit of national security at all costs, even when it compromises the ideals (like freedom) that they want to protect.I hold degrees in English Literature and Psychology, with first class Honours, from the Australian National University, and am now an active participant in the research and education community at ANU. I have taught across the Literature curriculum, ranging from introductory courses to modernist literature to literary theory, and I am currently the elected postgraduate representative for the College of Arts and Social Sciences.
I believe that academic research should be accessible to everyone, so I communicate my research to a broad and diverse audience. My work has been reported in The Canberra Times and Gizmodo, and I have spoken on ABC Radio Canberra, Open House and Military Network Radio.
