About Me

Biography

I am a current PhD candidate in Literature at the Australian National University, where I research the consequences of post-9/11 national security logic through American popular culture. My doctoral thesis uses Marvel's Iron Man film trilogy (2008-2013) to identify the emotional attachments that bind people to the pursuit of national security at all costs, even when it compromises the ideals (like freedom) that they want to protect.

I hold degrees in English Literature and Psychology, with first class Honours, from the Australian National University, and am now an active participant in the research and education community at ANU. I have taught across the Literature curriculum, ranging from introductory courses to modernist literature to literary theory, and I am currently the elected postgraduate representative for the College of Arts and Social Sciences.

I believe that academic research should be accessible to everyone, so I communicate my research to a broad and diverse audience. My work has been reported in The Canberra Times and Gizmodo, and I have spoken on ABC Radio Canberra, Open House and Military Network Radio.
